City airport offers incentives to attract overseas flight operators
For Airlines Operating For 200 Days (Departures) In A Financial Year

With a view to increase inflow of international flights, the Chandigarh International Airport Limited (Chial) has come up with an incentive to attract overseas flight operators.

A representative of the Chandigarh International Airport submitted a plan at the Punjab and Haryana high court during a hearing on Monday.

Chial in its scheme has proposed monetary incentives for flight operators from Chandigarh International Airport in domestic and overseas sectors and for domestic flights, having distance up to 165 nautical miles as well as over 165 nautical miles.

All such incentives will be applicable for chargeable passengers and will be provided to those airlines which will operate for minimum 200 days per slot (departures only) in a financial year.

After completion of the financial year, the same will be calculated and paid accordingly to the airliners annually. The incentive is excluding the GST.

However, for the financial year 2019-20, minimum 183 days per slot (departures only) will be considered since the incentive proposal is applicable from May 1, 2019.

The domestic flight operators up to 165 nautical miles (305 km) will be paid Rs 100 per embarking passenger between time slot of 1am and 4am. Similarly, domestic flight operators over 165 nautical miles (305km) will be paid Rs 150 per embarking passenger between time slot between 1am and 4am.

Whereas, international flight operators from the Chandigarh Airport (IXC) to direct international destination, will be paid Rs 300 per embarking passenger between time slot of 10pm and 5am.

Apart from attracting international players, this is also being done to facilitate 24X7 operation status at the Chandigarh International Airport.

At present, no new international flight operators are opting for 24X7 operations from the Chandigarh International Airport. Sources said flight operators were awaiting installation of CAT-ILSIII to apply for international sector.

Meanwhile, the 24X7 flight operations started from April 30 with domestic sector flights arrival after 11pm at the airport.

According to the summer schedule issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the actual 24X7 flight operations has already started at the Chandigarh International Airport from April 30 and May 1 onwards as three flights, from Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, arrive after 10pm at the airport. One flight from May 1 onwards started departing to Mumbai at 8.30pm.

According to the summer schedule, Indigo Airlinesoperated flight from Chennai arrives at 8.30pm, flight from Hyderabad arrives at 10.35pm and from Bengaluru at 11.35pm at Chandigarh. These flights have overnight stay at Chandigarh before departing the next day for their respective destinations
