There's No Left Bloc Anymore
It has been long since CPM and CPI held the traditional meeting of four Left parties.They are finding it difficult to hold meeting due to developments in other Left parties -RSP and Forward Bloc. RSP is vertically split, with the Bengal faction siding with CPM and the Kerala faction with Congress. The Bloc is with CPM in Bengal and fought independently in Kerala. How can there be a national meet when two are playing on opposite ends?
A Million Dollar Hug for Swarup
Vikas Swarup, currently the face of foreign ministry, wears another hat. He is the man who wrote Q&A which was transformed into Oscar awardwinning movie Slumdog Millionaire. This added to India's soft power in such a way that Swarup got a warm hug from an immigration officer in Washington the moment she heard that he was the author of the book.
Modi Govt Cracking the Whip
The Modi government is unhappy that some ministries keep engaging casual workers for attending to the works of regular nature. There have been clear instructions to reassess the work done by regular staff on the parameters of output and productivity and that the work entrusted to casual workers can be given to the under-worked regulars. The government has threatened action if it's not done immediately.
First Army, Then Navy; IAF Missing
The armed forces, which have traditionally been reluctant on sharing information, have taken strongly to the social media. After the Army, which was the first starter, the Navy jumped in this month with an official Twitter handle. The ongoing Malabar exercise is being showcased with good response. The Air Force remains the only one without social media footprint.
