Chandigarh:

The Haryana Police has started including charges of human trafficking and extortion against the accused in cases of immigration fraud registered following complaints by deportees from various countries.

This comes days after the Khattar government formed a seven-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe cases of human trafficking and immigration fraud following claims by most of the 76 Haryana residents deported from the US that they were human trafficking victims.

The SIT has already started adding these charges while preparing charge sheets in such cases. “Their (deportees) complaints and supplementary statements which were further corroborated with confession of those arrested clearly established how they were trafficked and exploited in India and abroad. All the complainants are deportees and have served jail terms abroad,” said IG, Karnal, Bharti Arora, who heads the probe team.

“The accused as well as the co-accused resorted to all kinds of tactics to blackmail the victims for extorting money from them and their kin,” she added. Till Sunday, the SIT had arrested 112 accused in 320 cases of immigration fraud registered on complaint of the deportees, including those who returned over the last two months
