Washington : Kimberly Guilfoyle, girlfriend of Donald Trump’s eldest son and a top fund-raising official for the US president’s re-election campaign, tested positive for the coronavirus on Friday. The development came amid rising Covid-19 cases in the country.

Guilfoyle tested positive ahead of an event in Mount Rushmore, South Dakota on Friday. She went there with Donald Trump Jr. to attend a fireworks display where the US president gave an address. They reportedly didn’t travel on Air Force One and she was the only person in the group who tested positive.

Meanwhile, the country reported 57,683 cases in 24 hours on Friday, a tally by Johns Hopkins University showed, the third consecutive day with record numbers of new infections.

In Florida, one of the hot spot states, Miami declared an indefinite night-time curfew and shut down some businesses. Several other states scaled down their July 4 Independence Day celebrations as mass gatherings have emerged as one of the causes of the second flare-up.

In another development, a dog in Georgia is believed to have been the second canine in the US to test positive for the virus. The six-year-old mixed breed dog was tested after its owners contracted Covid-19 and the dog began suffering from a neurological illness
