Sector 16 chemist’s four kin, two workplace contacts also positive

Chandigarh : The chain of Covid-19 infection, which was first detected after a chemist shop owner’s son tested positive, has spread to six more people, taking Chandigarh’s tally to 334 on Thursday.

Among the fresh positive cases are the 35-year-old chemist’s four family members. These include three females, aged five, 56 and 80, and a 60-year-old man. Another family contact has tested negative. All of them live in the same house in Sector 16.

Health authorities said the chemist’s parents, who are among those infected, had travelled to Sangrur in Punjab about 10 days back, which may be the source of infection.

Besides, two workplace contacts of the chemist — a 24-year-old man from Sector 16 and a 34-year-old man from Dhanas — were also found infected.

Earlier on Wednesday, their other workplace contact, a 34-year-old man belonging to Khuda Jassu, was found positive.

As many as 293 patients have been discharged so far , a recovery rate of 87.7%, while five have succumbed to the virus.

There are 36 active cases in the city now.

3 DERA BASSI RESIDENTS FOUND +VE IN MOHALI

Three people tested positive for Covid-19 in Mohali’s Dera Bassi, taking the district’s count to 143.

The patients are a 57-year-old Preet Nagar resident, a 25-year-old resident of Shivam Complex and a 22-year-old woman, who is a resident of Bhera village.

The 25-year-old patient had returned from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh on June 8. So far, the district has reported 143 cases, of which 112 have recovered, three have died and 28 are active.

4 NEW CASES IN p’kula

Panchkula confirmed four new cases. The patients include, two men aged 24 and 36, and a 65-year-old woman, all residents of Mansa Devi Complex, Sector 5. Apart from these three, a 75-year-old man from Abheypur also tested positive. Of the total 47 cases. 21 remain active.
