Jaipur : A day after ordering nine Muslim police personnel to shave beard, the Alwar police revoked the diktat on Friday without assigning any reason for the U-turn.
On Thursday, the Alwar police cancelled permission granted to the nine policemen to sport beard to ensure that they act and look unbiased, while on duty.
The order began circulating on social media, drawing flak for the police.
On Friday evening, the SP office issued a press note to say the order had been revoked on the application of the affected police personnel.

Alwar SP Deshmukh Paris Anil said the orders were issued as part of administrative process.
The objective of which was only administrative. In the district, 32 head constable and constables were given permission, of which 9 applications were rejected due to administrative reasons.
He added, those denied had reapplied, which now has been approved.
In an order issued by Deshmukh on Thursday, the permission given earlier to the Muslim policemen to keep beards under a provision of the state’s law has been withdrawn with immediate effect.
“The main objective of the order is that the men in uniform should perform their duties in an unbiased manner. Policemen should not only work in an unbiased manner but they should also look unbiased,” Deshmukh told PTI.
Provision of state govt allows to keep beard
“There is a provision of the state government which allows HoD to permit policemen to keep beards. Under the provision, 32 policemen were given permission. Permission of nine policemen has been cancelled while for rest of them it stands unchanged,” he said.
Suspense over 23 policemen
It was not immediately known if the permission to keep beards will also be withdrawn for the remaining 23 policemen.
Deshmukh had said on Thursday that the decision can be reconsidered and those dissatisfied with the order can give their representations.
“Still, if someone is affected (by the order) they can give their representation.Appropriate decision will be taken,” he said.
