Turnout high in north Hry, EVMs malfunction

Ambala/Kurukshetra/ Yamunanagar:

Voting in all assembly segments of northern Haryana districts — Ambala, Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar — was largley peaceful as the state went to polls on Monday.


There were some minor glitches in EVMs and some verbal spats between political rivals. The returning officers (RO) of Ambala, Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar said they had received no written complaints from the representatives of any party or independent candidates, and the entire process went on peacefully.

At the time this report was filed (8.30 pm), the overall voter turnout in Ambala district was 65.38%, Kurukshetra was 68.46% and Yamunanagar was 69.35%.

The Naraingarh assembly seat recorded a 73.5% voter turnout in Ambala district. In Mullana, the figure was 72.2%, 62% in Ambala Cantonment, and 60.5% in Ambala City.

In Kurukshetra, the Ladwa assembly seat recorded a 71% turnout, Thanesar had 68.5%, Pehowa had 67.1% and Shahabad had 67%.

In Yamunanagar, Sadhaura seat recorded a 74% turnout, Jagadhri 73%, Radaur 68.2%, and Yamunanagar 62.46%. “No matter has come to our notice and we have received no written complaints from the representatives of any parties and the entire process was smooth. Superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Jorwal and I personally visited around 300 booths in rural and urban areas. We spoke to voters and asked them if they had any problems and no such things were reported,” said Ambala returning officer Ashok Kumar Sharma.

“The election remained peaceful and we have received no complaints from anywhere in all the four assembly segments of the district,” Kurukshetra RO Satyavir Singh Phulia said.

“The election is completely peaceful and there is no written complaint,” Yamunanagar RO Mukul Kumar said
