C’garh MLA misses flight, ‘abuses’ AI female staffer

New Delhi:

Chhattisgarh Congress MLA Vinod S L Chandrakar and his entourage allegedly “misbehaved” with a woman airline employee at Raipur airport after missing their flight on Saturday. This VVIP tantrum was witnessed when Chandrakar and four others reached the boarding gate after their flight had already departed.

They were to fly to Ranchi on Flight 9I-728 operated by Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India. The lawmaker from Mahasamund, has denied all charges and complained to the AI management about the incident.

Air India spokeman Dhananjay Kumar said: “The matter has come to our notice. AI management has taken it seriously and has ordered a detailed inquiry. After the inquiry report, further action will be taken.”

Responding to the MLA’s complaint, the airline has submitted details of the episode to its management. “The MLA — whose boarding card had been issued along with that of four others who were to fly with him on 9I-728 — turned up at the boarding gate after the flight had departed and then they started shouting… used abusive language and humiliated (the woman officer) in public. He (Chandrakar) started saying he is MLA of the ruling party which the lady officer was not aware of until then. One of them grabbed her identity card. The hon’ble MLA spoke to the station manager on her mobile. Later, he refused to hand it over,” the report stated.

Chandrakar has denied this. “I reached the airport in time at 5.55 pm. I got delayed in security as my bag was checked twice. One of the people travelling with me reached the boarding gate and requested the AI officer to wait as we were just minutes away. Usmein kuch oonchi baat ho gayi hogi (This led to some heated exchanges). Out of ego, the lady officer closed boarding and sent the flight without us,” he said. The legislator said he has complained to the AI management.

The AI report says the woman officer was tormented by their behavior. “(She) was escorted by CISF and another staff through the airport’s back door and walked more than 2 km at 8.30 pm in drizzling rain,” the report said.
