New Delhi:

While the Indian team is set to regroup for the tour of West Indies in a week’s time, it has emerged that the Indian cricket board and the team management are upset with a senior member of the World Cup team. According to sources, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) is irked that the cricketer in question flouted the cap on the number of days a player’s family could accompany him during the World Cup.

In the minutes of the CoA meeting on May 3, it was highlighted that “one of the players from the men’s senior team had made a request for permission for his wife to accompany him to the World Cup tour earlier than otherwise permissible”. The CoA had turned down the request. It was later observed that the said player’s wife joined him before the tournament began and stayed with him throughout. Kohli and Shastri had also requested that families of players not be allowed to travel in the team bus.

“The violation has come to the notice of the BCCI. It was an awkward situation. The captain was adhering to this stringent rule but his senior colleague refused to budge. Ideally, the team’s administrative manager should have kept a check on it,” an Indian cricket board official told in a chat with TOI.

It was after this incident that the CoA decided to revise player contracts and allow the captain and coach to decide on the ‘family clause
