Bike-borne men loot ₹45,000 on PGI campus
DUO WAYLAYS, BEATS UP A JALANDHAR MAN WHO WAS CARRYING MONEY MEANT FOR HIS TW0-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER’S KIDNEY OPERATION

CHANDIGARH : Two bike-borne men assaulted a Jalandhar man and fled with ₹45,000 meant for his two-year-old daughter’s operation at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), police said on Sunday.

Though the incident took place on June 6, victim Suraj Parkash approached police now as he had to rush back home to arrange the money so that his daughter, admitted to the paediatric ward, could be operated upon for a kidney ailment.

WAS RETURNING TO INN AT GURDWARA

Suraj told police that he was returning to the inn at the gurdwara on the PGIMER campus after attending to his daughter in the ward when the incident took place.

As the gurdwara main gate was closed, a guard advised him to enter the premises from the rear.

While Suraj was approaching the rear entrance, he passed a dark spot where two men on a bike waylaid him, said police. The duo thrashed him and fled with the money.

Suraj, who works at a shop in Jalandhar, then returned home to arrange the money, said the Sector 11 police. As soon as he returned, he deposited the money for operation and approached police.

A case has been registered under Sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons, in furtherance with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Police are scanning the footage of closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) installed at the institute’s gates to identify and trace the accused
