Parleen from Patiala is top woman in PCS exam

Patiala:

Parleen Kaur of Patiala has topped the women candidates of Punjab in PCS examination, the results of which were declared on Friday late evening. She is placed third in the state.


Parneet hails from a family of sarpanches and her great grandfather Captain Jokhal Singh was a World War II veteran and was part of the battalion under the then Maharaja of Patiala.

Resident of Kotli village in Samana division of Patiala, Parleen Kaur Kaleka, 26, is an alumna of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, and was preparing for the exam for the last two years. She had done her graduation and post graduation in Geography. “My parents and teachers gave me support and boosted my morale, as I continued to struggle and achieve my dreams. I worked hard, putting in over eight hours a day.” She said.

Parleen added that she had cleared her Class XII from YPS Patiala and did her graduation from DAV College in Chandigarh. Parleen is a gold medallist in MA Geography from Panjab University.

“My grandfather Joginder Singh had remained an inspiration for me, as he was MA English and remained the saparnch of my village unanimously for 37 years while my father’s brother Dharminder Singh had also remained sarpanch twice,” said Parleen, whose mother is also an incumbent sarpanch of the village.

Nearly 22,000 candidates had appeared for the preliminary examination for the 72 posts
