Chandigarh:

Disheartened over denial of party tickets, aspirants from BJP and the Congress plan to give tough time to official candidates in the high stakes contest of Jind assembly segment bypoll.

Among those who are seen sitting at home include former MLA Mange Ram Gupta, former MP Surender Barwala, Senior BJP leader Jawahar Saini, Kalayat MLA and former MP Jai Parkash and Khap leader Tek Ram Kandela. Barwala, Kandela and Saini were the main aspirants from BJP. On the other hand, Gupta was apparently demanding ticket for his son Mahavir, he was ignored by all the parties.

Kandela has already been visited by Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala and Congress candidate Randeep Singh Surjewala. Sources claimed that he was willing to support any candidate except the INLD nominee.

Similarly, Jai Parkash too had been seeking ticket for his son Vikas from the Congress. The party election committee had even cleared his name but Rahul Gandhi announced Surjewala’s candidature. The MP too is refraining from campaigning from anyone.

In BJP, Saini and Barwala had though accompanied Krishan Chander Midha at the time of his nomination, but they have not been seen campaigning since. Barwala has convened the meeting of his supporters on Tuesday to decide further course of action and there were indications that he could even quit the party.

Barwala had unsuccessfully contested against Midha, the twotime INLD MLA who died in August last year, necessitating the byelection. He has said to have good influence in Jat community in Jind.

HPCC chief Ashok Tanwar admitted that some senior leaders are yet to join in Jind. “Surjewala is already in touch with Mange Ram Gupta and Jai Parkash. They have worked together in the past as well. They will be joining us soon,” he claimed.

While, Randeep Ghanghas, the co-incharge of Haryana BJP media cell denied that there was any dissatisfaction on the part of Saini, Kandela and Barwala. “Since filing of nominations they are working for us. This is a fact that ticket had to be given to one person. This is a democratic process. But, they are not unhappy. These are just the rumours spread by rival candidates who stand no where. They are already campaigning in their areas,’’ said Ghanghas
