Plot to kill Badal: NIA takes custody of five KLF men
LUCKNOW:The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday took in custody five alleged members of the pro-Khalistani group, Khalistan Liberation Front (KLF), lodged in the Lucknow district jail to further interrogate them in an incident of looting rifles from a police post in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district on the night of October 2.

The Khalistan Liberation Front members had looted the rifles after injuring a constable and a home guards jawan after barging into the Kamlapur police post purportedly to execute a plan to murder former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. The five KLF militants were later arrested from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab on October 15 and 18 in a joint operation of the UP’s anti-terror squad and the Punjab Police.

A senior NIA official said five people, including KLF top leader German Singh, Karamveer Singh, Amrit Singh, Karan Singh and Gurjant Singh have been taken in custody after procuring their remand from court.

He said the medical examination of the five was conducted at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Thursday midnight and now they will be further quizzed over their plan and their network across different states. The UP ATS was earlier probing the case but it was later transferred to NIA on November 26.
